Cardio-Oncology as a program began in Costa Rica in 2018. For many years, oncology and cardiology were working each part as individual groups. As the cardiovascular complications due to oncologic treatment continued to grow, we decided to join forces and now we are a multidisciplinary group. As a part of the evaluation of the oncologic patient, we started with a program of early detection for cardiovascular disease in the target population. We have a universal health system that allows every patient to have access to medical treatment, but our goal is following up our patients before, during and after chemotherapy; working together and making the best decisions for this population.
