Dr. Ghosh of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital London brings cardio oncology lectures to East India

Tata Medical Center, Kolkata is a tertiary cancer centre of excellence in the eastern part of India catering to cancer services not only to eastern and north-eastern India but also to Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. Despite its stature, the cardio-oncology service is in its infancy with only a visiting cardiologist supporting the service. We were fortunate that Dr Arjun Ghosh was kind enough to accept our invitation in the middle of his well-deserved vacation to enlighten us about the interesting world of cardiology’s newest subspecialty. Dr Ghosh gave us an enthralling lecture in our purpose built auditorium which was attended by not only faculty from Tata Medical Center Kolkata but also another cancer center (BALCO Medical Center, Raipur) through a tele-conference.  He gave a glimpse of Cardio-oncology, what it entails and how he has set up the service showing videos, pictures and data. He also spoke on Cardiac MRI and the value a cardiologist brings into the reporting table. At the end of his lecture, there was a lively interactive discussion among the radiation and medical oncologists. There were also initial discussions about proposal to set up collaborations and informal medical advice. We benefitted from his insights and look forward to listening him and setting up joint collaborations in the future.   We remain grateful to Dr Ghosh for this lecture and the time he spent at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata.
