About Antonio Abbate, MD, PhD
Dr. Abbate was born in Fondi, a small town near Rome, Italy. In Rome, he received his medical degree from the University Campus Biomedico and completed his clinical training in cardiovascular medicine and PhD in molecular and cellular cardiology from Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Policlinico Agostino Gemelli. After moving to the United States, he completed training in internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University, and then became faculty in the Pauley Heart Center for 15 years. In 2022, Dr. Abbate joined the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia as the Ruth C. Heede Professor of Cardiology.
