About Chelsea Kriesberg DNP, CPNP-AC, CCRN

My name is Chelsea Kriesberg DNP, CPNP-AC, CCRN. I am an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner with the Division of Cardiology at Advocate Children's Hospital where I am the Team Lead of the Pediatric Cardio Oncology Program. In addition to my clinical and programmatic responsibilities, I Chair the Pediatric Nursing Subcommittee for the International Cardio Oncology Society (IC-OS) and sit on other IC-OS working groups and subcommittees, including the Nursing Education Subcommittee, the Nurse Practitioner Subcommittee, and the Nurse Leaders Working Group.

My entire professional career has been dedicated to the care of complex patients with congenital and acquired heart disease in infants, children, and young adults. I have advanced my career to include the assessment and management of advanced heart failure, along with cardio oncology, in the pediatric population. I am a confident, passionate, and dedicated professional with a strong knowledge of pediatric cardiac care spanning the inpatient and outpatient settings.

I started my career as a registered nurse in 2008 after graduating from Marquette University's College of Nursing and have a strong background in pediatric critical care, spending the majority of my nursing career at the bedside in the PICU or Cardiac ICU and as an ECMO specialist at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (formerly Children's Memorial Hospital). I earned my Doctorate in Nursing Practice and became an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 2017 after graduating from RUSH University in Chicago and began my career at Advocate Children’s Hospital shortly thereafter.

After 4 years in the Pediatric Surgical Heart Unit, I became part of a team starting the Pediatric Advanced Heart Failure Program. From there, my interest and passion for Cardio Oncology was born, and after identifying the gaps in care as they related to this patient population within my own institution, I developed a nurse practitioner driven cardiac screening program for pediatric cancer survivors and used this expertise to gain administrative support for the development of a Pediatric Cardio Oncology program in 2022.

My first publication was in the Journal of Wound Ostomy and Continence Nursing in 2018. I was then part of a team that received the Society of Critical Care Medicine STAR Research Award at the 2023 Critical Care Congress, and received first place in the category of Professional Development at the ACC Advancing the Cardiovascular Care of the Oncology Patient in 2024. I have been asked to speak at institutional grand rounds and events, had abstracts accepted for poster presentation at multiple national and international conferences, guest lectured for the Preventative Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA) and appeared on their Podcast, as well as participated in roundtable panels and moderated education sessions through the International Cardio Oncology Society (IC-OS). This year I was awarded the Illinois Nurses Foundation 40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders Award.
