Dr Satish Ramkumar is an ICOS board certified Cardio-Oncologist and Multi-modality Cardiac Imaging Specialist at the Victorian Heart Hospital, Melbourne, Australia.
Satish completed his medical undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne and completed post-graduate medical and specialist training at Monash Health in Melbourne. He has completed a non-invasive imaging fellowship at Monash Heart in 2021 obtaining subspeciality training in echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and cardiac CT.
Satish then completed an overseas fellowship in cardio-oncology and cardiac MRI at Barts NHS Trust and University College Hospital, London in 2022-2023. Having returned to Melbourne in 2023, he commenced as a consultant cardiologist at the Victorian Heart Hospital with clinical interests in cardio-oncology, heart failure and multi-modality cardiac imaging. He is also involved in medical education and is the Director of Physician Education (DPE) at the Victorian Heart Hospital. He is a board certified cardio-oncologist with the International Society of Cardio-oncology (ICOS) and is growing the cardio-oncology service at the Victorian Heart Hospital, which has recently been awarded “Gold status” as a Centre of Excellence status with ICOS.
Satish has completed a Masters in Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology) at the University of Sydney in 2017 and completed his PhD in September 2020 at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, supported by research scholarships form the Heart Foundation and Avant under the supervision of Professor Tom Marwick. His research focussed on the use of advanced imaging markers to predict the risk of developing atrial fibrillation. Satish has presented extensively at local and international scientific meetings and his research has led to multiple publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals. Satish is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Victorian Heart Institute and his research interests include improving cardiac outcomes in oncology patients and using cardiac imaging markers in the assessment of cardiotoxicity and valvular heart disease.
