About Teresa López-Fernández, MD
Dr. Teresa López-Fernández is a distinguished Senior Consultant Cardiologist at La Paz University Hospital within the IdiPAz Research Institute in Madrid, Spain. She leads the Cardio-Oncology program and also holds a similar position at Quironsalud University Hospital. Her professional focus includes the clinical organization of multidisciplinary cardio-oncology teams, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases in cancer patients, and advanced cardiac imaging. She holds certifications in cardio-oncology from ICOS and Advanced Cardiac Imaging from the ESC.
Previously, Dr. López-Fernández served as the president of the Imaging Association of the Spanish Society of Cardiology from 2016 to 2020. She founded and chaired the Spanish Cardio-Oncology Working Group at the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SEC) from 2015 to 2023. Currently, she is the co-chair of the first ESC Guidelines on Cardio-Oncology and the president-elect of the ESC Council of Cardio-Oncology. Additionally, she is an associate editor of the European Heart Journal and the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. She also sits on the editorial board of JACC Cardio-Oncology.
Dr. López-Fernández coordinates the Cardio-Oncology master’s program at SEIC, has published numerous articles and book chapters, and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
In her research endeavors, she leads the Spanish Cardio-Oncology Registry (Cardiotox) and organizes its annual scientific meeting.
