IC-OS as a truly global cardio-oncology organization affords members the wonderful opportunity to meet fellow members across the world and to learn about cardio-oncology practice in differing health care settings. These meetings allow knowledge to be shared bi-directionally and for new practice pathways to be debated and considered.

Dr. Arjun Ghosh, Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre and University College London Hospital recently had the opportunity to meet fellow IC-OS members from Mumbai, India in April.

Dr. Ghosh gave a talk on Cardio-Oncology practice in the UK to oncology and general medical consultants and oncology residents at the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) in Mumbai. TMH is one of India’s oldest and largest cancer hospitals having started operation in 1941. TMH has a long-running well-established cardio-oncology service led by Dr. Sheela Sawant, Professor and Head of the department of General Medicine.

Dr. Ghosh’s talk was very well received with trainees especially asking questions for over half an hour after his talk. Questions ranged from clinical scenarios to best work-place practices in cardio-oncology showcasing the widespread interest in cardio-oncology issues amongst oncology trainees.

Dr. Ghosh also met separately with Drs. Sawant, Menon, Nayak, Daddi and other consultants in the departments of General Medicine and oncology. A number of topics were discussed including training and education and research opportunities between different IC-OS chapters. Local and international cardio-oncology pathways and service configuration issues were also deliberated over in depth. International collaboration strategies in the research, education and training domains figured high on the wish-lists of all attendees.

The fruitful discussions concluded with plans made for meeting with other IC-OS members at the next GCOS meeting in Minneapolis later in the year!
