About Michelle Bloom, MD
Michelle Weisfelner Bloom, MD, a well-respected and nationally recognized advanced heart failure cardiologist and cardio-oncologist, joined NYU in December of 2023 as System Director of Cardio-Oncology for the NYU Langone System, site director for the NYU-Long Island Cardio-Oncology Program, and Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine with dual academic appointments at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and the NYU Long Island School of Medicine. Under her leadership, the NYU Cardio-Oncology Program was quickly awarded a Center of Excellence Gold level designation by the International Cardio-Oncology Society (IC-OS). Prior to NYU, she served as the Director of the outpatient Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Center and the Co-Director of the Stony Brook Cardio-Oncology program at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Dr. Bloom holds the distinction of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America. She was also designated amongst a small and distinguished group as a Fellow of the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
She has extensive clinical experience in both advanced heart failure and cardio-oncology and has been consistently recognized both by her patients and colleagues for her excellence in clinical care and education. She was awarded “Master Clinician” through the Stony Brook Department of Medicine in 2023. She is lauded as a cherished mentor for countless trainees from high school through fellowship and is a passionate teacher both at the bedside and in the medical school, known for her impassioned role as a mentor and advocate for women in medicine. Most recently, she served as first author and co-chair of a Scientific Statement on Cardio-Oncology and Heart Failure, sponsored by the Heart Failure Society of America. She has spoken locally and nationally on topics of heart failure and cardio-oncology, serving as a resource for the building of a successful cardio-oncology program.
Within NYU Langone Heart, Dr. Bloom partners with the NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center, along with a team of multidisciplinary specialists to evaluate, manage and treat patients with cancer at risk for cardiac disease, including those who have developed cardiac disease as a result of cancer therapy and those who are survivors of childhood cancers with unique risk for early and high-risk cardiac disease. Dr.Bloom also cares for patients with advanced heart failure as a member of the NYU Langone Advanced Heart Failure team.
Dr. Bloom completed her cardiology and advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation fellowships at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, after completing an Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Hospital. She has been repeatedly recognized as a Castle Connolly Newsday and New York Times Top Doctor, New York Super Doctor, and Exceptional Woman in Medicine. Dr. Bloom has been featured on several media outlets including Healthination, “GoodRx,” and News 12 Long Island. She has also made appearances on NYU Langone’s Doctor Radio and “Katz’s Corner.”
