About Gene A. Wetzstein, PharmD, BCOP
Dr. Gene Wetzstein has a diverse and accomplished career spanning 20+ years in hematology/oncology and supportive care settings, both in clinical practice and industry. He earned his Doctorate of Pharmacy from North Dakota State University. He then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and an Oncology/Hematology/HSCT Specialty Residency at Moffitt Cancer Center. He has been Board Certified in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) since 2000.
Dr. Wetzstein is the Director of Supportive Care Research & Scientific Affairs at the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute (TGHCI)/ Cancer Center of South Florida where he leads supportive care cancer research and scientific affairs, including real-world evidence generation, health economics and outcomes research, and implementation sciences.
Dr. Wetzstein is a member of multiple hematology/ oncology organizations, holding leadership roles on various committees over the years. He currently serves on the ATOPP Steering Committee and FLASCO Pharmacy Program Committee. Gene has been invited and spoken nationally on oncology/ hematology and supportive care related topics. Dr. Wetzstein has authored/ co-authored multiple publications, abstracts, and book chapters. He has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple research initiatives.
